Season 3 at Lindores Abbey: 8 June to 3 July 2026

Excavations this year will continue to focus on water use and hydraulic engineering! We have four trenches. One trench is exploring the "water gate" on the north side of the monastery, just beyond the precinct boundary. Three other trenches are exploring channels and walls on what is now the distillery side of the property. Building on the 2106 excavations conducted by Rebecca Shaw, we are investigating how water was used by the monks for manufacture, including the distilling of spirts.  Post-Excavation work will take place on site and the History & Archaeology Lab at St Andrews.
