Bioarchaeology

Bioarchaeology analyses human remains from archaeological sites to
study the lives of individuals and communities in the past.

Lab work is done to identify skeletal anomalies and to offer a range of possible causal diseases and injuries, health patterns, diet, and estimate their human impact.

History & Archaeology Lab

Students may opt to participate in our lab-based introduction to osteoarchaeology. Over three two-hour sessions, students learn the basics of human skeletal anatomy, and work towards estimation of sex, stature, and age at death. Students with more advanced osteological experience may have the opportunity to work at a higher level. Please note that our bioarch theme is lab only. Any human remains encountered on site will be excavated by qualified archaeologists. Students may observe this work in the field.

Intensive July Courses
