Avdat and Ein Avdat Mapping
Archaeological sites in Israel are mapped according to a system known formally as the Israeli Transverse Mercator (ITM) or informally as the New Israel Grid (NIG) - for a brief description, click here. The 1:50,000 map below shows the sites of Avdat and Ein Avdat on this grid. The two black semicircles in the Ein Avdat portion of the map are symbols for the monks' caves. In the NIG system, the coordinates are given as two sets of six-digit numbers. The following are the NIG coordinates for the places in Avdat and Ein Avdat relevant to our project:
